What happens when Philadelphia construction firms, suppliers, agencies, organizations, and Penn buyers all meet together? A profound discussion on field-wide issues, a showcase of available resources, and a celebration of supplier diversity that helps our city and region’s economy thrive.
Penn’s 7th annual Supplier Diversity Forum & Expo brought together 30 local exhibitors and 17 construction businesses to showcase their products and services and build their networks.
Among the exhibitors was Andrew Magnus of BTC Envelopes and Printing, who started his business in 2007. After working as a sales rep for another printing company, he saw an opportunity to create a business as a minority entrepreneur. Printing was a strong industry without many people of color at the top, Magnus noticed. BTC’s business relationship with Penn has allowed him to “create a presence and show other people that this is a great opportunity.”
Penn spent approximately $170 million with diverse suppliers in fiscal year 2023 and is currently on track to exceed that number in fiscal year 2024.
“Penn’s commitment to supporting diverse small businesses isn’t simple altruism,” said Provost John L. Jackson, Jr. “We invest in diverse and small businesses because they are a critical part of the fabric of this region.”
