Philadelphia native Samantha Rise amplified their voice during WXPN’s Black Opry Residency, where six Black country musicians convened in West Philadelphia to discuss the roots of Americana music and their experiences within the music business.

“The stories that are the most important …,” Rise said, “are going to come from the storytellers that are most often left on the sidelines of these essential conversations in and around major institutions.”

By participating in the program, the resident artists walked away with new tools, contacts, and sources of inspiration for continuing to pursue their craft.
