The Youth United Against Incarceration Symposium was the culmination of West Philadelphia High School’s Mass Incarceration Project, a three-month, student-led curriculum that explored the history, statistics, and personal narratives behind mass incarceration.
The symposium, co-sponsored by Penn GSE’s OSCE and HEARD, included workshops on topics ranging from self-advocacy throughout the legal process to fighting the school-to-prison pipeline. Students left the symposium with deeper knowledge and advocacy skills that they can use to inspire action in their communities.
