Supporting students’ interest in STEM takes a village, according to Abriana Steward-Height, a Penn Engineering and GRASP Lab alum. By volunteering with the National Society of Black Engineers, she’s learned how to help kindle that flame.
“I’ve talked to parents about different ways that they can get their children involved in STEM and keep them involved in STEM,” says Steward-Height. “A child could have an interest in engineering, but if they don’t have a support system around them that feeds that curiosity and interest, they’ll lose it.”
“I really want the research I do in robotics to have a broader impact,” she adds. By inspiring an interest in the next generation of engineers, Steward-Height is doing exactly that.
